The Band Reeves, two brothers (Jeramy and Cody Reeves) from east Texas, are a relatively new band, but they are quickly becoming one of my favorite CCM artists. Raised as pastor's kids and shaped by church life and outdoor adventures. They still do construction work full time and balance time with playing music. Currently on the Black Sheep Tour with Ben Fuller. You may have heard a few of their songs like "Outrun You" and "Front Porch Church", but they recently released my favorite new song of May... "Don't Let That Devil Drive."
I especially like the subtle reference to Carrie Underwoods "Jesus Take The Wheel".
The phrase "don't let that devil drive" stems from a classic African American spiritual and gospel proverb: "Don't let the devil ride, because if you let him ride, he'll want to drive." Originally popularized by traditional church "mothers," the metaphorical saying is a warning against making small compromises with sin. It suggests that if you allow a negative influence (the devil) a small opening in your life (a ride), it will soon overpower your willpower and take full control (the drive)
