Tuesday Testimonial - Kid Rock?

Kid Rock is not the first person to come to mind when thinking about Christianity. However, he is getting a lot of press about his upcoming faith-focused album Halfway 2 Jesus, a 17-track effort that will also feature a reunion with fellow Detroit artist Eminem.

The record is scheduled for release October 17 and follows the arrival of its first single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)”. The new material finds Kid Rock leaning heavily into Christian themes, with song titles including “Why Don’t You Look Into Jesus,” “Water Into Wine,” “Me And Jesus” and “God Is Good.”

The album’s religious focus represents a notable contrast with some of the more controversial material from Kid Rock‘s earlier career which has led a lot of people to criticize him and express skepticism on whether his faith is genuine or not.

Here's the thing. None of us know the true state of Kid Rock’s heart. What we do know is that he is a human being that needs Jesus, like all of us do, and we need to be concerned with making sure he and everyone else knows the love of our Savior. Rather than trying to deduce whether or not he’s truly saved, why don’t we spend that effort asking the Lord to convict His heart if he’s not living as He should, and to save him if he’s doesn’t truly know Christ? We’re accomplishing nothing saying “look at how fake this dude is!” That’s the wrong heart and it’s the wrong heart for us to be fighting with each other and trying to prove each other wrong with Scripture and passive aggressive comments. If we’re not discussing these things in love, then all we’re doing is fighting and we’re not accomplishing anything except sowing division.

Here is part of a Kid Rock interview on Joe Rogan a couple years ago...

Remember we have not been given the authority to judge someone's salvation. That's God's job. We certainly should question the doctrine that is being spread, but we don't get to decide who is saved and who is not.

God can and will use anyone to spread His message and fulfill His plan. Is what Kid Rock and others doing causing harm? Possibly. Could it be reaching someone that has never accepted Jesus and is deciding to look into Christianity because of what these people are saying? Also possibly.

The Bible is filled with examples of God using people that were not considered good examples. Some of the greatest people used by God had great moral flaws. Jacob lied and connived. Noah got drunk. Samson was immoral. Gideon was fearful. Rahab was a prostitute. David had an affair and then had someone murdered to cover it up. Elijah was deeply depressed and didn’t want to live. Jonah ran from God. And Paul spent a great portion of his life hunting down and killing Christians.

Yet despite their flaws, God changed their hearts and used them for His purpose. I think we will have to wait and see how God works with Kid Rock.
