Tuesday Testimony - Jamie MacDonald

A little over a week ago singer/songwriter Jamie MacDonald received the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.

MacDonald's father Jim was a professional boxer who challenged for the world light heavyweight championship three times. Her mother and father divorced while she was young. When she was 15, her stepfather forced her out of her house for singing. In her teenage years, she became addicted to drugs, and when she was 16, she dropped out of high school. She moved to Los Angeles, California, and suffered of homelessness. While in her early 20s, she saw many of her friends suffering from drug overdoses, participating in gang violence, or being sent to prison; she decided that she was "tired of that life", prompting her to become a Christian and participate in prison ministry.

She began her music career independently in 2014; she later gained prominence in 2025 following a signing with Capitol Christian Music Group and subsequent release of the singles "Desperate", "Left It in the River", "Ain't No Way", and "Who He Is", each of which went on to experience chart-topping success on the Billboard Christian Airplay and Christian Adult Contemporary Airplay charts. Her self-titled debut album was released in early 2026.

After years of honing her craft behind the scenes, MacDonald quickly emerged as a breakout artist, earning widespread attention for her powerful debut and authentic storytelling. With over 1.1M monthly Spotify listeners, 135M+ global streams, and 130M+ social views, she has built a rapidly growing fanbase. Her career includes major radio success—including multiple #1 hits before her debut album release—alongside collaborations with top Nashville songwriters and producers. Jamie’s music has also been featured across film, television, and major network placements.
